Society restaurant and comes from the highly successful Lucas Group, founders of the uber-successful Kisume, Chin Chin, Grill Americano, Hawker Hall restaurants (to name just a few).Â
Society is firmly aimed at the higher end of the local dining scene. It certainly looks and feels like a no-expense-spared project. The restaurant is set a few floors above Collins Street with options for premium dining, more casual fare, drinks, cocktails and the like.Â
From the private elevator to the extensive wine collection and the beautifully appointed dining rooms it oozes luxury and special occasion.
Lunch at Lillian Brasserie (the second dining room of Society) delivers some excellent hospitality.
Scallop with labne, oregano and sobrasada was a real standout dish. A really stunning flavour and texture combination that I’d totally order again.Â
Smoked ham terrine with fennel ham and cornichons was well executed too. Shucked oysters with lime and rice wine vinegar also went down a treat. If the budget allows try a caviar pretzel!
Eye fillet steak was a popular choice for main course at our table and they all were served perfectly cooked with traditional condiments including béarnaise sauce and mustard. An excellent choice for meat lovers.Â
Glazed duck leg with puy lentils was a delight. While the apple and rhubarb tarte tatin with ice cream was a great finish to the meal.Â
There was some excellent local wine too, the Domaine Chandon Sparkling Rosé was a standout.
It was certainly nice to step up to a glamorous dining room for a delicious Melbourne dining experience. It’s a yes from me.
