Phuket Island, Thailand - Travel
I was asked recently for recommendations on what activities and destinations I enjoyed on Phuket Island, Thailand. I’d suggest booking a top speaking driver and a car to explore for a day or two. The island is relatively big and there is plenty to see here.
My recommended list includes The Big Buddha - definitely worthy of a visit, this 45 meter hilltop seated buddha statue has excellent ocean views.
Phuket Old Town - a lovely small town with colourful architecture, historical sites, quality shops to browse and many excellent specialty coffee places and good food. Small enough to wander for 2-3 hours.

Sunset views from Phuket’s southernmost point is worth the traffic jams.
Chalong Bay Rum is an excellent spot to visit as they offer a tour of the distillery and a tasting of cocktails. Loved this!
Also loved a boat trip (full day) to Phang-Nga marine national park. Especially seeing the Ko Panyi stilted fishing village, James Bond Island and Khai Nai Island.

Phuket Island, Thailand - Food
Thailand’s food scene is diverse, affordable, super fresh and downright delicious. Thai food is actually in my top favourite cuisines of all time.
On Phuket Island I loved the Khao Man Gai, which is often described as the Thai version of Hainanese Chicken rice. The chicken is usually served warm on a bed of rice that's been cooked in chicken broth with a thick, spiced soybean paste and cucumber slices on the side.
I really enjoyed browsing the stalls at the Bangala Night Market to choose fresh seafood and and have it cooked over glowing coals. I’d say definitely order pineapple rice! I was amazed at how complex, tasty and full of flavour this classic is. I’ve only had pineapple rice this good in Thailand.Â
Also stir fried eggplant, greens with garlic, vegetable curry, fresh coconut juice and ice cream treats from a street side stall after dinner. You name it, it tasted delicious.
I honestly didn’t have a bad meal here. Everything was so fresh and full of flavour. My photos really don’t do the food justice. I would happily return to Phuket Island anytime!
